This is the part that catches people off guard. Every foreign national entering Mongolia — regardless of visa status — must register with the Immigration Agency of Mongolia within 48 hours of arrival.

This applies even if you are American, British, or Australian and entered completely visa-free.

How it works in practice: If you are staying at a hotel or licensed tourist ger camp, they register you automatically. This is standard — your accommodation provider does it as part of their legal operating requirements. You do not need to do anything yourself.
